POSITION SUMMARY The ACE Activity Leader provides a safe, structured, and engaging after-school experience for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. The Activity Leader plans and facilitates academic, enrichment, recreational, and social-emotional activities; maintains accurate program records; supports student supervision and dismissal; and helps ensure that campus implementation meets ACE grant requirements and RYSS expectations. Prekindergarten students may participate when enrolled with an eligible sibling.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree, college coursework, or relevant certification preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-age children in a school, childcare, after- school, camp, recreation, tutoring, or youth-development setting preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate structured activities and manage groups of students effectively.
  • Strong communication, organization, reliability, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to complete required background checks, training, and documentation before working with students.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Provide active, consistent supervision of assigned students from program check- in through dismissal.

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate academic enrichment, homework support, literacy, STEM, arts, recreation, leadership, or social-emotional learning activities aligned with the approved ACE program plan.

  • Prepare materials and learning spaces before activities and return rooms, equipment, and supplies to an orderly condition afterward.

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment and communicate clear routines, expectations, and transitions.

  • Use positive behavior supports and restorative practices; respond calmly and appropriately to student needs and conflicts.

  • Take and verify attendance daily; maintain sign-in, participation, and dismissal records accurately and submit required documentation on time.

  • Ensure students participate in the full program schedule, including dinner, academic enrichment, and enrichment activities, as assigned.

  • Follow all campus dismissal procedures, release students only to authorized individuals, and immediately report discrepancies or safety concerns.

  • Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.

  • Monitor student progress and engagement and provide feedback to the ACE Program Coordinator regarding needs, concerns, and successes.

  • Safeguard student information and maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA, district policy, and program requirements.

  • Follow all RYSS policies and procedures related to safety, student conduct, mandated reporting, emergencies, and use of facilities and technology.

  • Participate in required orientation, professional development, planning meetings, program events, data collection, and TEA/ACE evaluation activities.

  • Use program materials, equipment, and grant-funded resources only for approved purposes and report supply needs to the ACE Program Coordinator.

  • Perform other program-related duties as assigned by the ACE Program Coordinator or campus administration.

  • Knowledge of child development, positive behavior supports, and age- appropriate instructional and enrichment practices.
  • Ability to follow lesson plans, activity guides, schedules, safety procedures, and grant documentation requirements.
  • Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, follow directions, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Basic technology skills for attendance, communication, records, and program reporting.
