Title: Accounts Payable Manager
Salary: $71,000–$85,000
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
• Become the organization’s Workday Accounts Payable expert with significant ownership over the AP function
• Opportunity to redesign a decentralized AP process and move toward a more centralized, automated model
• Play an integral role in introducing automation, AI, and machine-learning technology into AP processes
• Manage a reasonable volume of fewer than 100 invoices per week, allowing for greater focus on process improvement and exception resolution
• High visibility with the Controller, CFO, and broader Finance leadership team
• 37.5-hour workweek with flexibility around scheduling; 8:00–4:00 is ideal
• Strong retirement benefit with a 10% employer contribution to the 403(b) after one year
Accounts Payable Manager Key Responsibilities:
• Report directly to the Controller and own the full life cycle of Accounts Payable operations
• Serve as the primary functional expert for the Workday Accounts Payable module
• Review, validate, approve, and process vendor invoices, purchase orders, expense reimbursements, stipends, and other payments
• Manage ACH, check, wire, and other payment methods while ensuring timely settlement and accurate accounting
• Maintain supplier records, support onboarding, and review required tax documentation including W-9s
• Lead resolution of complex payment, supplier, workflow, approval, and compliance issues
• Generate AP reporting and analytics to support reconciliations, month-end close, audits, and operational decision-making
• Coordinate annual 1099 review, preparation, validation, and filing
• Maintain and strengthen AP policies, procedures, internal controls, and audit-ready documentation
• Develop training materials and provide Workday/AP support to internal stakeholders
• Identify opportunities to centralize AP, automate manual processes, improve workflows, and enhance Workday functionality
• Participate in Workday testing, upgrades, enhancements, Finance projects, and year-end close activities
Accounts Payable Manager Qualifications:
• 5–8+ years of progressive Accounts Payable or accounting experience
• Extensive, recent Workday Accounts Payable experience required; must know the AP module in depth and be able to serve as the functional expert
• Full-cycle AP experience including invoice processing, payments, supplier management, reconciliations, expense reimbursements, stipends, and month-end support
• Experience with internal controls, audit support, regulatory compliance, W-9s, and 1099 reporting
• Strong process improvement mindset with the ability to identify inefficiencies and redesign AP workflows
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across all levels of an organization
