We are seeking a Full‑Time Accounting Specialist to join our Finance team and play a key role in supporting the financial integrity of our mission‑driven work.
About the Role
The Accounting Specialist supports the agency's accounting operations and provides backup coverage for key general accounting functions. This role manages tasks across the full accounting cycle, with primary responsibility for grant accounting, financial reporting, and cash receipts/accounts receivable.
This position is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who enjoys working with data, values accuracy and process improvement, and takes ownership of reviewing and cross‑checking their work.
What You'll Do
- Support day‑to‑day accounting operations with a focus on grant accounting, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for month‑end close
- Ensure accurate and timely billing, cash receipts, and receivable tracking in accordance with grant and funding requirements
- Maintain organized documentation and independently review work to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate with Finance leadership, program staff, and external partners to support audits and reporting needs
- Provide backup support across general accounting functions and assist with special projects as needed
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full‑time position (40 hours per week)
- In‑office role, five days per week
- Professional office environment with standard office equipment
What You Need
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hands‑on accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit, month-end close, and AR & Revenue reconciliation
- Experience with month‑end close, journal entries, AR, and revenue reconciliation
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas and data reconciliation
- Experience working with accounting or financial systems
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to independently cross‑check work
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to manage deadlines while maintaining accuracy
