Accounts Receivable / Collections Specialist
Position Summary
This position supports the collection and processing of state receivables, including returned payments, fuel tax and audit assessments, civil penalties, and other miscellaneous balances. The role requires strong attention to detail, customer communication, collections experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with collection of delinquent receivables, including returned payments, assessments, penalties, and miscellaneous balances
- Use skip-tracing tools and other resources to locate delinquent customers
- Apply applicable state statutes, rules, policies, and internal procedures
- Communicate with internal and external customers by phone, email, and written correspondence
- Process credit card and check payments
- Prepare and process daily internal deposits
- Process bank levies, bond claims, agency transfers, and other collection-related transactions
- Refer qualifying debt to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office
- Assist with removal or write-off of uncollectible debt as appropriate
- Validate, record, and report revenue activity
- Perform banking and general ledger accounting functions
- Complete account analysis and reconciliations
- Support testing of internal system enhancements
- Write, update, and maintain desk procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation and records
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Preferred Skills / Experience
- Accounts receivable, collections, billing, or financial operations experience
- Experience handling delinquent accounts and customer follow-up
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with account reconciliation and general ledger functions
- Comfortable processing financial transactions and maintaining accurate records
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively
