    ACCOUNTING PAYROLL CLERK

    Mendoza Ford is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Accounting Payroll Clerk to join our Accounting Department.

    This is a full-time position combining payroll processing, general accounting duties, employee support, and benefits administration. We are looking for someone with a good accounting foundation who takes pride in accuracy, organization, and completing work thoroughly.

    Previous automotive dealership or payroll-system experience is helpful, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person.

    POSITION DETAILS

    Position: Accounting Payroll ClerkDepartment: AccountingSchedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am –5:00pmEmployment: Full-TimePay: DOE (Depending on Experience)Reports To: CFO/Comptroller

    New employees receive a 90-day performance evaluation, which provides an opportunity to review job performance, progress, responsibilities, and compensation. Employees also participate in the company's annual performance evaluation process.

    PAYROLL RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position assists with weekly payroll for approximately 110 employees across two dealerships; which share common ownership and accounting operations.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Process weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
    • Review employee time records for missed punches, errors, and discrepancies.
    • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees, commissioned employees, salespeople, managers, and flag-rate technicians.
    • Calculate and verify commissions, bonuses, incentives, and other variable compensation as needed.
    • Process new hires, terminations, pay-rate changes, garnishments, child support, employee deductions, vacation, and other payroll changes.
    • Review employee-initiated payroll information changes as appropriate.
    • Prepare payroll for final verification and approval by the CFO/Comptroller.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.

    ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position is an important part of our Accounting Department and will also assist with:

    • Accounts receivable.
    • Bank reconciliations.
    • Payroll data imports to the general ledger.
    • Payroll-related journal entries.
    • General ledger and bank account reconciliations.
    • Employee benefit payables.
    • Month-end verifications and assigned checklist responsibilities.
    • Additional accounting responsibilities as the employee's knowledge and experience grow.

    HR & EMPLOYEE SUPPORT

    The Accounting & Payroll Clerk will also assist with several employee-related responsibilities, including:

    • New employee on-boarding and paperwork.
    • Maintaining employee personnel files.
    • Benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations.
    • Health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement benefits.
    • Vacation and unpaid time-off records.
    • Employment verification and unemployment-related requests.
    • Assist with termination procedures when appropriate.
    • Providing friendly, professional assistance to employees with payroll and benefit questions.

    Confidentiality and integrity are essential for this position, considering the high-level access to sensitive payroll, compensation, financial, and employee information. A signed Confidentiality Agreement will be executed upon hire.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • 3+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, or related experience preferred.
    • Basic understanding of accounting principles.
    • Experience with reconciliations and general ledger activity preferred.
    • Basic Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
    • Ability to meet important recurring deadlines consistently.
    • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
    • Willingness to learn additional accounting functions and cross-train within the department.
