Position summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely execution of Vermillion's accounting functions and financial reporting processes. This position oversees day-to-day accounting activities, supports month-end and year-end close, prepares and reviews financial information, maintains general ledger accuracy, and ensures accounting transactions are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and accounting principles.
The Accounting Manager works closely with the Controller to maintain effective accounting processes and internal controls, provide accurate financial information to management, support budgeting and audit activities, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement. This position also provides direct supervision and development of the Accounting Specialist and works collaboratively with departments throughout the organization.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities and ensure transactions are processed accurately, completely, and timely.
- Coordinate and perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare weekly gross-margin, cost-of-quality, flash, and other financial or operational reports as required.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including asset, liability, equity, revenue, and expense accounts, and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare, review, and post recurring and nonrecurring journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable activities and provide guidance and backup support as needed.
- Monitor customer accounts, receivables, collections, cash application, and related accounting activities.
- Ensure proper accounting and recordkeeping for fixed-asset acquisitions, transfers, depreciation, and disposals.
- Support inventory accounting, manufacturing cost accounting, and related account reconciliations in coordination with the Controller and appropriate operational departments.
- Review accounting transactions and supporting documentation for accuracy, appropriate authorization, and compliance with company policies and established accounting procedures.
- Assist the Controller with annual budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and other financial planning activities.
- Prepare financial information, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for external auditors and other authorized reviews.
- Assist with federal, state, local, customer, and other audits as required.
- Support the maintenance and effectiveness of internal accounting controls and recommend improvements to accounting processes and procedures.
- Maintain accurate financial information within Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI/M4) and other applicable financial systems.
- Utilize CSI/M4 to research transactions, maintain accounting information, generate reports, and support financial analysis and reconciliation activities.
- Identify and investigate accounting discrepancies, determine appropriate corrective action, and communicate significant issues to the Controller.
- Develop, document, maintain, and improve accounting procedures and work instructions.
- Assist in developing financial and accounting reports that provide management with useful and timely business information.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve accounting issues, improve transaction accuracy, and support effective business processes.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, customer, vendor, and other sensitive company information.
- Provide backup accounting support as business needs require.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Controller.

- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, and procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Strong account reconciliation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Understanding of fixed-asset accounting and recordkeeping.
- Manufacturing accounting and/or cost-accounting knowledge strongly preferred.
- Experience with ERP-based accounting systems required; Infor SyteLine experience preferred.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify discrepancies, research underlying causes, and determine appropriate solutions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple responsibilities within established deadlines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, or a closely related field and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible accounting experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and five or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience demonstrating the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the position.
- Previous accounting experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing ERP systems, preferably Infor CloudSuite Industrial (CSI/M4), preferred.
- Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis preferred.
- CPA or CMA certification is a plus but is not required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Accounting Manager directly supervises the Accounting Specialist and is responsible for providing day-to-day direction, support, and development.
- Assign and prioritize work and monitor completion and accuracy.
- Train, coach, and develop the Accounting Specialist.
- Review work and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Establish performance expectations and participate in the performance-review process.
- Identify training and development needs.
- Ensure accounting processes, procedures, deadlines, and internal controls are consistently followed.
- Address performance or work-quality concerns in coordination with the Controller and Human Resources.
- Participate in interviewing and selecting Accounting department employees as appropriate.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and effective communication within the department.
