Description

Kforce's client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Newark, NJ, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support the organization's financial integrity, compliance, and growth. This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for an accounting professional with strong nonprofit accounting experience, expertise in NetSuite, and a passion for process improvement. The Accounting Manager will lead core accounting functions, manage the monthly close process, oversee revenue recognition for grants and contributions, support cash management activities, and collaborate across Finance, Development, and IT to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. This role also plays a key part in system enhancements, staff development, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily accounting operations, including oversight of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and performance support
  • Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, fixed assets, and general ledger analyses
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor payments, receivables, and related financial transactions
  • Maintain accurate accounting for grants, contributions, pledges, deferred revenue, and other funding sources in accordance with GAAP
  • Partner with Development and program teams to ensure proper revenue coding, tracking, and recognition
  • Coordinate revenue reporting and support cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
  • Monitor daily cash management activities, including banking transactions and credit facility activity
  • Analyze accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and reporting accuracy
  • Lead and support financial system enhancements, integrations, and automation initiatives, including NetSuite-related projects

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant nonprofit accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles, including grant and contribution accounting
  • Advanced experience with NetSuite ERP required
  • Experience leading accounting process improvements, system implementations, or automation initiatives preferred
  • Prior supervisory experience within AP, AR, or general accounting functions
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, and cash management
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
