Accounting Manager - Insurance
My client is a growing specialty insurance organization seeking an Insurance Accounting Manager to join its finance leadership team. This role will oversee key accounting and financial reporting activities while managing and developing a team of accounting professionals. The position offers a blend of technical accounting, statutory reporting, team leadership, and process improvement responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, including workload management, performance coaching, and technical guidance.
- Oversee month-end and quarter-end close activities, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
- Manage the preparation and review of insurance-related financial reporting and regulatory filings.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal control frameworks.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors and support audit requests through completion.
- Serve as a key accounting resource for cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Research and evaluate technical accounting matters and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Drive process improvement, automation, and reporting efficiency initiatives.
- Support strategic projects and other accounting-related initiatives as needed.
Desired Background
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- CPA designation required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience within the insurance industry.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or leading accounting staff.
- Exposure to statutory accounting, insurance regulatory reporting, or financial statement preparation is highly preferred.
- Experience working with auditors and managing audit deliverables.
- Strong technical accounting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Public accounting experience is a plus.
