The City of Greensboro is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and technically skilled Accounting Manager to lead the Accounting Division within the Finance Department. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall management and administration of the Accounting Division and serves as the Citys subject matter expert for general ledger processes, accounting operations, and financial controls. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Salary and Benefits: The hiring range for the position is $93,580.00 - $123,121.00. As a City employee, the Accounting Manager participates in the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System (NCLGERS), which includes a 6% pre-tax employee contribution and a City-funded employer contribution, with vesting after five years.
Availability Expectations: Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, or a closely related field, including a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting coursework;
"OR" an equivalent of an Associates degree from an accredited college or university and ten (10) or more years of progressively responsible, FLSA-exempt financial management experience (e.g., within a municipal or county government environment, or as an auditor serving public-sector finance organizations, or private sector.
Seven (7) or more years of professional experience in governmental or nonprofit fund accounting, including responsibility for interpreting and applying complex financial principles, conducting advanced financial analysis, supporting strategic decision-making, and leading or supervising professional staff.
Technical - Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including advanced use of Excel for financial analysis, reporting, and budget management.
Licenses/Certifications:
Ability to obtain and maintain the North Carolina Certified Local Government Finance Officer (CLGFO) designation within three (3) years of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (with concentration in Accounting or Finance), Public Finance, Public Administration (with significant finance or accounting coursework)
CPA License
Experience with Enterprise Financial Management systems and ERP platforms, such as Infor, Oracle, SAP, Workday, Tyler Technologies, Munis, or comparable governmental financial software.
Proven success advising executive leadership, elected officials, boards, or governing bodies on financial strategy, risk management, and organizational decision-making.
Experience leading high-performing finance teams and fostering a culture of accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
Knowledge of North Carolina local government finance laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) applicable to public-sector organizations..
