This consultant will play a key role in maintaining day-to-day accounting operations during an important transition period, working closely with the firm's leadership and finance team.This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys managing transactional accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting process improvements in a dynamic environment. The engagement is expected to last at least 6 months and may evolve into a longer-term consulting relationship or permanent opportunity.Position SummaryThe Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper Consultant will support the firm's accounting operations by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with reconciliations, supporting month-end close activities, and helping document existing accounting procedures. This individual will work alongside firm leadership and finance personnel to ensure continuity of accounting operations while supporting process improvements and knowledge transfer initiatives.A significant portion of the role will involve reviewing historical accounting records, assisting with account cleanup efforts, documenting procedures, and helping maintain accurate and timely financial reporting.Key Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
• Process and record financial transactions accurately and timely.
• Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
• Support cleanup and reconciliation of historical accounting records.
• Maintain accounting schedules and supporting documentation.
• Assist with cash management activities and banking transactions.
• Monitor outstanding receivables and support collections efforts as needed.
• Help prepare internal financial reports and account analyses.
• Document accounting procedures, workflows, and key processes.
• Coordinate with external accountants, tax professionals, and advisors to provide requested financial information.
• Ensure accounting records are organized, complete, and audit-ready.
• Identify opportunities for improving accounting processes and efficiency.
• Provide administrative accounting support to leadership and the finance team as needed.

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of bookkeeping, staff accounting, or related accounting experience.
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Understanding of month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software applications.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with client leadership and team members.
• High degree of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.

• Experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
• Familiarity with legal accounting concepts, including:
  • Trust accounting and IOLTA accounts
  • Case cost tracking
  • Billing and collections support
• Experience with accounting system cleanups or financial record reconciliations.
• Prior consulting, outsourced accounting, or client-service experience.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, or similar accounting systems.
