An expanding industrial design-build and construction firm is seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller for a full-time, on-site position in the Duncan, SC area.

Reporting directly to financial leadership, this role is key to maintaining daily accounting operations, driving monthly close cycles, and delivering accurate project-level financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a background in project accounting/job costing within the construction or engineering sectors and have the analytical drive to support operational decision-making.

We are seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented, and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Permanent Assistant Controller in our Construction Project Accounting department. This role is perfect for an experienced, ambitious professional with a proven track record in the Accounting and Finance industry, specifically in the construction sector. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in construction project accounting, with a strong understanding of percentage of completion, Sage, Timberline, Sage 300, Vista, Vista Viewpoint, change orders, lien waivers, T&M, and the intricacies of working with both General Contractors and Subcontractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of accounting operations for construction projects, including cost accounting, general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and project accounting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, ensuring all financial information has been recorded accurately.
  • Oversee and manage the percentage of completion, ensuring accurate and timely recording.
  • Handle change orders and lien waivers, maintaining accuracy and transparency in all financial transactions.
  • Use Sage, Timberline, Sage 300, Vista, and Vista Viewpoint software to manage and track financial data.
  • Work closely with General Contractors and Subcontractors, ensuring all financial aspects of contracts are fulfilled and managed effectively.
  • Act as a key point of contact for external auditors during financial and operational audits.
  • Develop and implement effective internal controls and financial procedures to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the accounting department.
  • Provide financial analysis, with details of project costs, profitability, and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure that all financial aspects of construction projects are on track.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in Accounting or Finance, with a focus on construction project accounting.
  • Proficiency in Sage, Timberline, Sage 300, Vista, and Vista Viewpoint software.
  • Extensive knowledge of percentage of completion, change orders, and lien waivers.
  • Experience working with General Contractors and Subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of T&M and its application in construction project accounting.
  • Proven track record of creating and implementing systems and procedures in an accounting function.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work under tight deadlines.
