Interim Director / VP of Finance & Accounting
Location: Huntsville area — 4 days per week in office
A growing government contracting and professional services organization is seeking an Interim Director/VP of Finance & Accounting to provide hands-on leadership during an important period of growth and transition.
Reporting to the COO, this leader will oversee a finance and accounting team of approximately seven and take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, reporting, forecasting, compliance, and process improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
- Provide hands-on leadership and direction to the Finance & Accounting team.
- Partner with the COO and senior leadership on financial performance and business decisions.
- Oversee project finance and government contract accounting.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government contracting requirements and internal controls.
- Support pricing, forecasting, and program-level financial analysis.
- Drive process improvements, automation, and scalability across the finance organization.
- Oversee audit, tax, banking, and other external financial relationships.
- Provide financial reporting, analysis, and performance metrics to leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and overall finance operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Previous Director of Finance, VP Finance, Controller, or similar senior-level experience.
- Strong experience within a government contracting environment.
- Strong Deltek Costpoint experience required.
- Deep understanding of government contract accounting, indirect rates, FAR/DCAA requirements, and project-based financial management.
- Experience leading and developing finance/accounting teams.
- Strong analytical, operational, and communication skills.
- Ability to be hands-on and immediately effective in a fast-moving environment.
- ESOP/employee-owned company experience is a plus.
- CPA is preferred but not required.
