Job DetailsWe are seeking an analytical and detail-oriented Accountant with experience or an interest in cost accounting, managerial accounting, and financial analysis. This individual will help evaluate financial performance, monitor operating costs, prepare management reports, and provide insights that support informed business decisions.
The position will work closely with accounting and operational teams to understand cost drivers, investigate financial variances, and improve visibility into profitability across various business activities.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers beyond the general ledger and can translate financial information into meaningful insights for non-financial stakeholders. Experience in agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, or another inventory-intensive industry is beneficial.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis
- Analyze production, labor, materials, overhead, and other operating expenses.
- Monitor cost trends and identify opportunities to improve cost control and profitability.
- Evaluate financial performance across departments, products, and operational activities.
Management Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial reports, management reporting packages, and operational dashboards.
- Analyze financial results and communicate key findings to leadership.
- Develop reporting tools that improve visibility into business performance.
Budgeting & Variance Analysis
- Assist with annual budgets, financial forecasts, and ongoing planning activities.
- Compare actual results against budgets, forecasts, and prior-period performance.
- Investigate variances, identify underlying causes, and communicate findings to management.
Inventory & Product Costing
- Assist with inventory valuation, cost allocations, and product costing.
- Analyze costs associated with production, processing, storage, and distribution.
- Support accurate cost tracking and financial reporting in an inventory-driven environment.
General Accounting & Month-End Close
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with monthly financial close activities and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
- Maintain appropriate documentation and support internal financial controls.
Operational Partnership & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with operational teams to understand financial results and cost drivers.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting procedures and improve reporting accuracy.
- Prepare financial models and ad hoc analyses to support business initiatives and management decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in accounting, cost accounting, managerial accounting, or financial analysis.
- Understanding of general accounting principles, financial statements, and month-end close processes.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, or variance analysis.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial and operational data.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to communicate financial findings clearly to both accounting and non-accounting teams.
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems preferred.
- Background in inventory accounting, manufacturing, agriculture, food processing, or product costing is a plus.
