Description

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Ensure appropriate revenue recognition, inventory accounting, AP/AR accounting, and expense classification.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and audit requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits and other compliance activities.

Cost Accounting & Inventory

  • Own the cost accounting process, including inventory valuation, product costing, manufacturing variances, and COGS analysis.
  • Lead the implementation and ongoing maintenance of standard costing.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to maintain accurate BOMs and item cost information, including material, labor, variable overhead, and fixed overhead.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate labor and overhead rates.
  • Analyze purchase price, material usage, labor, overhead, and other manufacturing cost variances.
  • Lead inventory analysis, cycle-count controls, physical inventory activities, excess and obsolete inventory reviews, and inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Analyze gross margin by product, product family, customer, and other relevant business dimensions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product margins and reduce manufacturing costs.

Forecasting & Financial Analysis

  • Lead the monthly forecasting process in partnership with the General Manager and functional leaders.
  • Develop detailed, assumption-based forecasts for revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, EBIT, working capital, and other key financial metrics.
  • Maintain supporting forecast models with clear calculations and documented business assumptions.
  • Analyze actual results versus budget, forecast, and prior year and clearly explain the underlying business drivers.
  • Support General Manager in identifing and quantifing risks and opportunities to the forecast.
  • Prepare financial analysis and recommendations to support management decisions.
  • Lead the annual budgeting and strategic planning processes.

Business Partnership

  • Serve as the primary finance partner to the General Manager.
  • Translate financial results into meaningful business insights.
  • Partner with Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Engineering, and other functions to understand business performance and improve profitability.
  • Support pricing, product profitability, make/buy, inventory, capital investment, and other business decisions.
  • Proactively identify financial and operational issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develop and monitor meaningful KPIs for management.

ERP Systems & Process Improvement

  • Develop strong functional knowledge of Sage Intacct and the business processes that feed the financial system.
  • Take ownership of financial master-data integrity, including items, GL groups, product lines, projects, departments, locations, customers, vendors, and other reporting dimensions.
  • Improve the use of Sage Intacct for accounting, inventory, purchasing, order entry, reporting, and financial analysis.
  • Develop and improve management reports, including sales analysis, backlog/margin reporting, inventory valuation, trial balance/dimensional reporting, and received/shipped-not-invoiced reporting.
  • Improve purchasing and AP controls, including PO approval and non-PO invoice approval processes.
  • Identify manual processes that can be standardized, automated, or eliminated.
  • Partner with IT, Sage support, and external consultants on ERP enhancements while maintaining appropriate business ownership and controls.
  • Support future ERP initiatives and potential system migrations or integrations.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Sage Intacct experience preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge.
  • Strong manufacturing cost accounting experience.
  • Experience with inventory accounting, standard costing, BOMs, labor and overhead rates, and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Experience leading month-end close and balance sheet reconciliation processes.
  • Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and variance-analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain financial results and underlying business drivers to non-financial leaders.
  • Strong ERP knowledge and ability to understand transactions from operational activity through financial reporting.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-through, and time-management skills.
