The Accountant supports the company's accounting and financial reporting functions, with emphasis on accurate month-end close, account reconciliations, fleet and fixed asset accounting, and audit support. The Accountant usually works under limited supervision and subject to work as long as necessary to perform his/her job responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
- Prepare and record journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities in accordance with company deadlines.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances or unusual activity.
- Assist with monthly financial statements, management reporting, and budget-to-actual analysis.
- Support compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
Fleet & Fixed Asset Accounting
- Support proper capitalization of equipment purchases, major repairs, rebuilds, and improvements.
- Assist with depreciation calculations, fixed asset reconciliations, disposals, transfers, and impairment review support.
- Support physical inventory process.
Internal Controls, Audit & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, reconciliations, approvals, and supporting documentation.
- Prepare audit schedules and respond to external auditor or tax advisor requests.
- Assist with accounting policy documentation, operationalize technical accounting research, and process standardization.
- Support compliance with company procedures, regulatory requirements, and customer or contractual requirements.
Process Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting efficiency, accuracy, and close cycle timelines.
- Assist with ERP enhancements, reporting improvements, reconciliations automation, and workflow documentation.
- Develop and maintain desk procedures for recurring accounting tasks.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential:
- Two or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- Experience in crane rental, equipment rental, construction, transportation, manufacturing, industrial services, or fleet-heavy operations preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, financial reporting, fixed asset accounting, and audit support.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, formulas, and data analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
Desired:
- CPA license or CPA candidate preferred.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage Intacct, Sage 300, or similar platforms preferred.
- Fleet and fixed asset accounting for heavy equipment.
- Audit readiness, technical accounting support, and accounting policy documentation.
- ERP process improvement, reporting automation, and system implementation support.
