Accountant
Pay Rate: $65,000–$80,000/year; Based on experience

Our growing client is seeking an Accountant to support both project accounting and corporate accounting. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working with project teams and financial data while gaining broad exposure to construction accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close. The position works closely with Project Managers, Purchasing, and executive leadership and offers opportunities for professional growth.
Responsibilities of the Accountant will include:
- Maintain fixed asset schedules and workpapers, including capitalization, depreciation, and asset disposal.
- Assist with month-end close, including journal entries, working papers, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare and reconcile monthly WIP schedules, validate project data, and record revenue recognition entries using percentage-of-completion concepts and ASC 606.
- Review P&L and balance sheet activity, identifying unusual variances, risks, and opportunities.
- Support financial analysis, project reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Maintain vendor compliance documentation, including certificates of insurance, W-9s, lien waivers, and prevailing wage documentation; issue year-end 1099s.
- Oversee AP coding and posting for subcontractor, vendor, and overhead invoices and reconcile vendor statements.
- Monitor open commitments and evaluate the P&L impact of project and vendor activity.
- Prepare check runs and monitor project-level cash flow, coordinating AR funding with related AP obligations.
- Process subcontractor AIA pay applications, verifying schedules of values, stored materials, and retention against contract terms.
- Draft, issue, and maintain subcontracts and track approved change orders.
- Prepare and submit owner AIA billing applications and reconcile approved amounts with job cost and revenue recognition schedules.
- Prepare monthly Project Status Reports (PSRs), process budget modifications and job cost transfers, and analyze over/under billing by project.
- Monitor job cost budgets versus actuals, identify discrepancies, and coordinate with Project Managers to resolve issues.
- Maintain organized project and accounting files, including contracts, change orders, pay applications, lien waivers, correspondence, and vendor records.
Qualifications for the role of Accountant:
- 1–3 years of accounting experience, preferably within construction or another project-based industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; an Associate’s degree with equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.
- Experience with financial reporting and analysis.
- Review or audit experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of P&L and Balance Sheet activity and how transactions impact financial statements.
- Strong understanding of debits and credits.
- Working knowledge of AIA billing (G702/G703), ASC 606, and WIP schedule preparation.
- Experience with job costing, subcontract administration, and change order tracking.
- Proficiency with construction accounting/ERP systems and strong Excel skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple project files and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with Project Managers, Purchasing, and executive leadership.
