Job Description

The Accountant will manage and analyze the County budget to assist management in making sound financial decisions for the present and future. He/she will perform monthly and year end accounting processes; assist in the collection, preparation, and analysis of financial data in accordance with all local, state, federal, and financial reporting requirements; and manage the cash resources of the County in order to maximize interest revenue and meet payroll, accounts payable, and warrant payable needs.

Starting Salary:               $52,708.50 - $58,188.00 per year, The starting salary is negotiable based on relevant years of work experience and education in a similar position.

Reports to:                      Financial Manager 1  

Supervises:                     N/A

Classification:                Accountant I

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm, this position will work and be paid for 75 hours in a 2-week pay period, ability to go onto a compressed work schedule (working 9 days vs. 10 day) after 6 months of satisfactory job performance

Current Cumberland County Employees will follow the County Promotion/Demotion policy. 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Responsible for portions of the budgeting process from the design of the database through the approval of the budget and the publishing of the budget document.
  • Manage the performance measures and benchmarking processes of the County
  • Manage and perform the accounting functions for multiple funds.
  • Manage the cash resources of the county on a daily basis to maximize interest revenue and ensure the safety of the investments.
  • Manage county credit cards. 
  • Update the Finance website for new documents and updating information.
  • Attends training and seminars as required.
  • Performs other related job duties as required.

 

Minimum Requirements to Perform the Work: 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 15 credits in accounting.

 

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in budget and accounting (government preferred).
