    Position Summary

    Accountant

    Finance and Administration

    Controller's Office

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Prepare journal entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts; Work with the Controller and University personnel to investigate, correct, and follow up on any inaccuracies identified
    • Ensure integrity and accuracy of all accounting transactions under GAAP, including both routine transactions as well as some complex, non-recurring transactions
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures all within GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) guidelines
    • Reconcile and analyze complex balance sheet and income statement accounts; investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
    • Prepare and analyze periodic financial reports for University departments and management
    • Research accounting issues and provide recommendations to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions
    • Analyze financial data and trends to identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
    • Support month-end and year-end close processes by preparing and reviewing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and preparing audit workpapers under the guidance of Senior Accountants
    • Create, modify, and deactivate Banner Finance user access in accordance with University policies and internal controls
    • Maintain and monitor Banner security roles and permissions to ensure appropriate segregation of duties and access controls
    • Update and maintain financial manager assignments for indexes and organizations within Banner
    • Review and approve requests related to funds, accounts, indexes, and Banner Finance maintenance activities
    • Maintain strong internal controls over financial processes and Banner security administration to safeguard University assets and ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and audit requirements
    • Prioritize workload effectively to ensure tasks are completed accurately and deadlines are consistently met

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field
    • Minimum of one year of accounting experience including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts and preparing financial reports; Experience supporting audits and preparing workpapers is a plus
    • Minimum one year of experience with Word, Excel, and Access
    • Financial reporting experience subject to various internal and external laws, regulations, and accounting standards
    • Experience with ERP system administration, including user security roles, permissions, and access controls
    • General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Experience with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB) is a plus
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate information, and develop effective solutions
    • Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
    • Demonstrated commitment to providing responsive, professional, and service-oriented support to internal and external customers
