A leading refined fuel distribution company is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting operations, financial reporting, tax compliance, and process improvement. This role supports the financial strength and operational integrity of the organization while partnering with leadership to provide accurate, timely, and actionable insights. The Accounting Manager will lead accounting team members, maintain reliable financial systems, and help ensure compliance across reporting and motor fuel tax requirements.

Position Overview

Fusion HCR is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead key accounting functions, including monthly close, financial reporting, retail and wholesale fuel accounting, account reconciliations, and motor fuel compliance. The role will supervise and develop accounting personnel while ensuring accurate financial statements, tax filings, workpapers, and departmental allocations.The Accounting Manager will also oversee accounting-related systems, support implementations and upgrades, and identify opportunities to improve workflows, data integrity, and operational efficiency. This hands-on leader will communicate financial information clearly to senior leadership and provide sound analysis to support business decisions, organizational growth, and long-term stability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop accounting team members through performance discussions, training, and growth opportunities.
• Oversee monthly close activities, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and departmental revenue and expense allocations.
• Prepare and analyze gross profit reports, income statements, sales performance reports, and financial statements.
• Present financial results and business insights clearly to senior leadership.
• Prepare year-end workpapers and tax schedules for audits and compliance requirements.
• Prepare and file state motor fuel tax returns within required deadlines.
• Issue 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC forms and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
• Oversee general ledger, fixed asset, and lease management systems.
• Lead system implementations, upgrades, user training, and change management initiatives.
• Standardize accounting procedures and improve workflows, efficiency, and data integrity.
• Support hiring, compensation discussions, organizational changes, acquisitions, and department restructuring.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of seven years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
• Experience with financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and tax compliance.
• Three to five years of managerial or supervisory experience preferred.
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred.
• CPA license preferred.
• Fuel, energy, or logistics industry experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume, deadline-driven environments.
• Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and solve problems proactively.
• Experience improving accounting procedures and business processes.
• Proficiency with financial systems, accounting software, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
• Strong analytical, written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to interpret complex financial data, including amortizations, interest, and commissions.
• Effective leadership, collaboration, coaching, and team development capabilities.
