An Access Control Technician installs, programs, maintains, and repairs electronic and mechanical security systems, including access control systems, locks, security cameras, recorders, and related network devices. The role involves troubleshooting system issues, coordinating re-keying projects and security upgrades, and ensuring all solutions comply with established access control policies and key management protocols. The technician also works directly with clients to develop effective security solutions, provides technical leadership and guidance to junior staff and contractors, and supports the implementation of surveillance and facility security improvements.

Primary duties include:

  • Installs, programs, repairs and makes modifications to access control systems
  • Provides on site technical leadership and oversight for internal staff, small temporary summer staff, vendors, and contractors
  • Installs programs, repairs and makes modifications on a variety of access control boards and third-party security devices.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 1 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years electrical and electronic equipment experience with demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
  • Associates degree in a IT related field from an accredited technical College or University, 2 years or more documented supervisory experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Personnel should have a thorough knowledge of Industry terminology; able to troubleshoot basic network problems.
  • Basic Computer Skills with working in a Microsoft environment.
  • Ability to read blue prints and schematic drawings, operate hand power tools, fleet vehicle in a safe manner at all times.
  • Provide remote technical support to customer and communicate and provide excellent customer service.

For in-house projects, provides scope of work, estimates project costs and schedule with direct consultation of department representatives.
