Job Position: Access Control & Security Technician
Location: San Antonio, TX 78249
Pay Rate:$22.00 $35.00/hr
TradeSTAR is seeking experienced Access Control & Security Technicians to support commercial electronic security projects throughout South San Antonio. This position is ideal for technicians with experience installing, terminating, commissioning, and troubleshooting access control, CCTV, and integrated security systems in commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, and government environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
Install, terminate, and commission access control systems including card readers, biometric readers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices, door position switches, and power supplies.
Install and support IP-based and enterprise-level access control platforms.
Install, terminate, and configure CCTV systems including fixed, PTZ, and IP network cameras.
Pull, route, label, and dress Category 6, Category 6A, composite, and low-voltage security cabling in accordance with project specifications.
Install and terminate security system head-end equipment, control panels, field devices, and network-connected hardware.
Perform system testing, commissioning, and functional verification of integrated security systems.
Troubleshoot device communication, power, networking, and hardware-related issues.
Read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, door schedules, sequence of operations, and low-voltage system drawings.
Support system integration activities involving access control, video surveillance, and intrusion detection platforms.
Document installations and maintain accurate records of testing and commissioning activities.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year of commercial access control, CCTV, or electronic security experience.
Experience installing and terminating door hardware and access control devices.
Working knowledge of low-voltage cabling practices and structured cabling standards.
Familiarity with IP networking, PoE infrastructure, and network-connected security devices.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
Experience using multimeters, cable testers, and commissioning tools.
Knowledge of enterprise security platforms such as Lenel, Genetec, Software House, Avigilon, Brivo, or similar systems is a plus.
OSHA 10 certification preferred but not required.
Reliable transportation and ability to work on active commercial construction sites.
