POSITION SUMMARY: Texas College seeks a highly engaged, proactive, and student-centered Academic Success Coach & Advisor to help students establish and maintain the academic behaviors, plans, and progress necessary to persist toward graduation. The Academic Success Coach & Advisor combines academic advising, individualized success coaching, proactive academic intervention, and student-success education. The position will work directly with students to understand academic requirements, establish academic goals, develop individualized academic and success plans, monitor progress, strengthen academic skills, and respond early when students begin demonstrating signs of academic difficulty. A significant responsibility of this position will be supporting students who are on academic warning or probation, subject to Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements, operating under an Academic Plan, repeating coursework, returning after academic difficulty, or otherwise identified as academically at risk. The Academic Success Coach & Advisor will also support first-time freshmen and other priority student populations through proactive advising and coaching designed to improve academic momentum, persistence, retention, and degree completion. This position works collaboratively with faculty, Academic Affairs, the Registrar, Financial Aid, Student Success Counselors, the Student Success Case Manager & Advocate, Athletics, and other institutional partners through the Steer Student Success Network.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic Advising •\tProvide individualized academic advising regarding degree requirements, course selection, registration, academic policies, major requirements, academic standing, and progress toward degree completion. •\tHelp students develop semester-by-semester academic plans aligned with their program of study and graduation goals. •\tReview students' earned and attempted credit hours, GPA, course history, degree progress, and other available academic information when advising. •\tAssist students in understanding the academic implications of adding, dropping, withdrawing from, failing, or repeating courses. •\tWork collaboratively with faculty advisors and academic departments to ensure students receive accurate and consistent academic guidance. •\tSupport registration and re-registration initiatives, particularly for students whose academic circumstances require additional planning.

Academic Probation, SAP & Academic Plans •\tMaintain an active caseload of students on academic warning or probation and students required to follow Academic Plans. •\tMeet individually with assigned students to review their academic standing and establish clear expectations for improvement. •\tDevelop, document, and monitor individualized Academic Plans in accordance with College policies and applicable requirements. •\tMonitor each student's progress against the specific requirements established in the student's Academic Plan. •\tConduct scheduled progress reviews throughout the semester rather than waiting until final grades are posted. •\tCoordinate appropriately with Financial Aid regarding students whose academic progress may affect Satisfactory Academic Progress eligibility, while recognizing that Financial Aid retains responsibility for federal financial-aid SAP determinations. •\tHelp students understand the distinction between institutional academic standing and financial-aid SAP when applicable. •\tEscalate students who are not meeting Academic Plan requirements for appropriate intervention before the situation becomes irrecoverable.

Academic Success Coaching •\tConduct individual and small-group academic success coaching. •\tHelp students identify academic goals, challenges, strengths, and behaviors affecting their performance. •\tDevelop actionable student success plans with clear goals, responsibilities, milestones, and follow-up dates. •\tCoach students in areas including: o\tTime management o\tStudy strategies o\tOrganization and planning o\tGoal setting o\tClass attendance and engagement o\tCommunication with faculty o\tTest preparation o\tAcademic confidence and self-advocacy o\tUnderstanding academic expectations o\tBalancing academic, employment, athletic, family, and other responsibilities •\tUse motivational interviewing, coaching, active listening, reflective questioning, and other appropriate student-development approaches to help students take increasing responsibility for their academic success.

First-Time Freshman Success •\tMaintain proactive contact with assigned first-time freshmen during their transition to Texas College. •\tConduct structured check-ins during critical points of the first semester. •\tHelp students understand academic expectations, faculty communication, registration processes, available resources, and personal responsibility for academic progress. •\tIdentify first-semester students beginning to demonstrate attendance, engagement, or performance concerns. •\tWork closely with faculty and other Student Success Network members to intervene early. •\tSupport the transition from first-year advising into longer-term academic planning and degree progression.

Student-Athlete Academic Support •\tWork collaboratively with Athletics and faculty to monitor academic progress of student-athletes. •\tAssist student-athletes with academic planning, time management, course progress, and degree momentum. •\tIdentify student-athletes experiencing academic difficulty and coordinate intervention. •\tSupport students who were recruited for athletics but whose enrollment, roster status, or participation circumstances have changed and who may require additional academic or persistence support. •\tEnsure academic decisions remain centered on the student's educational progress regardless of athletic participation status.

Student Success Network •\tServe as an active member of the Steer Student Success Network. •\tParticipate in coordinated review of students requiring intervention. •\tAccept academically focused cases referred through the Network. •\tRefer complex nonacademic cases to the Student Success Case Manager & Advocate or appropriate institutional resource. •\tMaintain responsibility for the academic component of a student's intervention even when other offices are addressing financial, personal, housing, or administrative barriers. •\tEscalate institutional barriers preventing timely resolution.

Documentation & Accountability •\tMaintain timely and accurate records of advising sessions, academic plans, student contacts, referrals, interventions, commitments, follow-up dates, and outcomes. •\tUse the College's designated student information, advising, early-alert, and case-management systems. •\tMaintain an accurate roster of assigned students and their intervention status. •\tTrack student progress from initial concern through resolution. •\tProduce regular reports regarding caseload activity and outcomes. •\tIdentify patterns in academic difficulty that may require broader institutional intervention.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •\tBachelor's degree from an accredited institution. •\tMinimum of two years of relevant professional experience in academic advising, student success, retention, higher education, counseling, coaching, or a related area. •\tDemonstrated ability to advise, coach, mentor, or support college students. •\tKnowledge of academic advising and student-success principles. •\tStrong written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills. •\tAbility to interpret academic records and communicate academic requirements clearly to students. •\tAbility to manage a defined student caseload and multiple competing priorities. •\tAbility to establish rapport while maintaining appropriate expectations and accountability. •\tDemonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, administrators, and student-support personnel. •\tProficiency with student information systems, spreadsheets, databases, LMS platforms, and/or student-success technology. •\tAbility to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle protected student information. •\tAbility to work occasional evenings or weekends during registration and other critical student-success periods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS •\tMaster's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Psychology, Academic Advising, or a related discipline. •\tExperience working with students on academic warning/probation, SAP, Academic Plans, or academic recovery. •\tExperience with first-year students and students at elevated risk of attrition. •\tExperience developing or delivering academic-success workshops or courses. •\tExperience working with student-athletes. •\tExperience using early-alert, advising, degree-audit, LMS, SIS, CRM, or case-management technology. •\tExperience serving students at an HBCU, small private college, or institution serving significant populations of first-generation and Pell-eligible students. •\tFamiliarity with Jenzabar and/or Maxient is desirable.
