# Job Summary

The College of Engineering seeks an Academic Professional with a working title of Assistant Dean for Faculty Development & Career Pathways (ADFDCP), to provide leadership that advances faculty success and career progression across academic and research faculty professional pathways. This role serves as the Colleges primary administrator for research faculty promotions, academic non-tenure track promotions, and third-year lecturer reviews, as well as managing Post-Tenure Review (PTR), Faculty Development Grants (FDG), and faculty development programming for tenure-track faculty. The ADFDCP will participate in the design and delivery of college-wide training, mentoring, and professional development initiatives; manage full-cycle processes for assigned faculty groups; and ensure compliance with Institute and USG policies related to faculty career progression.

The position requires sound professional judgment, the ability to operate effectively across ambiguity, and the capacity to translate policy into clear guidance, timelines, and expectations for faculty and school staff and leadership. The ADFDCP collaborates closely with School Chairs, Associate Chairs, faculty committees, school staff, and administrative partners across campus, and provides cross coverage during peak review periods, including tenure track and Regents level processes, to ensure continuity and risk mitigation.

# Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Faculty Development & Scholarship and Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs & Accreditation on assessing trends in academic career progression, benchmarking peer institutions, and shaping college-wide approaches to mentoring, evaluation, and professional growth consistent with University System of Georgia and Georgia Institute of Technology policies and guidance.
• Provide end-to-end oversight and quality control for assigned faculty review and promotion processes, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and policy compliance.
• Serve as the College subject-matter expert for research faculty and non-tenure track academic faculty career pathways, including interpretation and application of Institute and USG guidelines.
• Develop, maintain, and communicate standardized templates, guidance materials, timelines, and training resources to support schools and faculty.
• Coordinate PTR processes and ensure consistency, documentation quality, and timely completion across schools.
• Partner with School Chairs, faculty committees, and college and Institute leadership to identify risks, resolve process breakdowns, and improve workflows.
• Design, implement, and assess faculty development initiatives, including mentoring programs, workshops, and Faculty Development Grants.
• Maintain dashboards and tracking tools for assigned areas to support transparency, planning, and leadership decision making.
• Collaborate with other Assistant Deans and the Colleges Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Scholarship to provide cross coverage during high-volume review cycles.
• May contribute to the effective functioning of the school, college, or institute through service activities that support academic and administrative priorities, such as serving on task forces and/or Faculty-Affairs related committees.
• Additional related duties as assigned.

# Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Non-tenure Track Academic Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook (https://www.policylibrary.gatech.edu/faculty-handbook/3.2.2-non-tenure-track-academic-faculty-members-hiring-and-promotion-guidelines).

• Associate Academic Professional: This is the entry-level rank and normally requires completion of the terminal degree. In exceptional cases, this rank may be used for individuals completing a terminal degree and for a period of two (2) years. If the degree is not conferred, another position appointment is required.
• Academic Professional: This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional. Ordinarily at least three (3) years as an Associate Academic Professional is required before promotion to the rank of Academic Professional. The quality of performance and potential for development must be recognized by peers. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.
• Senior Academic Professional: This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires evidence of superior performance in the chosen field, recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local), and successful and measurable related experience. Promotion to Senior Academic Professional from the rank of Academic Professional requires at least five (5) years at that level. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.
• Principal Academic Professional: This rank requires a terminal degree. It also requires evidence of superior performance in the chosen field, recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local), and successful and measurable related experience, including but not limited to supervision of others work, significant responsibility, and authority within program area, and demonstrated impact. Promotion to Principal Academic Professional from the rank of Senior Academic Professional requires at least six (6) years at that level. Credit for previous academic or professional experience should be explicitly stated at the time of employment.

# Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in a STEM field strongly preferred.
• Substantial professional experience in higher education administration, faculty affairs, academic personnel processes, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of faculty career pathways, academic review processes, and higher education organizational structures.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail, including implementation of policy into robust and structured processes.
• Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information and complex, multi-step administrative processes.
• Experience managing faculty promotion or academic personnel processes at a research university.
• Knowledge of Georgia Tech and University System of Georgia faculty policies, guidelines, and resources for faculty.
• Experience designing faculty development programs, training curricula, or academic workshops.
• Familiarity with accreditation documentation, faculty data systems, or workflow tools.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing faculty success and maintaining a respectful, collaborative environment.
