Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Chair and Executive Chief Administrative Officer, this role oversees the academic and administrative operations of the Department of Radiation Oncology and plays a key role in advancing departmental strategy, performance, and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead departmental operational planning, large scale initiatives, and change management efforts aligned with strategic objectives.

  • Oversee staffing models, workload distribution, and performance management to ensure effective use and development of administrative personnel.

  • Establish, monitor, and refine administrative controls, processes, and workflows to support efficiency, compliance, and accountability.

  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement across administrative teams and guide staff professional development efforts.

  • Partner with departmental leadership on short and long term strategic planning to enhance overall department performance.

  • Assess departmental IT resources at the faculty and administrative levels, identify technology needs, and coordinate upgrades as needed.

  • Collaborate with Information Services to support flexible and remote work for administrative staff by ensuring appropriate systems and tools are in place.

Salary: $6,725 - $14,041.67 monthly

Required:

  • Bachelorâ€s Degree in Human Resources or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 4-6 years of subject matter expertise

  • Thorough knowledge of UC-wide Academic Personnel Policies (APM) and bargaining union contracts, and the procedures and practices that govern academic personnel administration.

  • Thorough knowledge of local, i.e. DGSOM and/or department, voting and compensation plan bylaws, and the procedures and practices that govern academic personnel administration.

  • Thorough knowledge of Compensation Plan bylaws including Outside Professional Activities and the procedures and practices that govern these.

  • Adept in handling sensitive information and / or situations and maintaining strict confidentiality.

  • Adept in meeting deadlines despite frequent interruptions.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively relay and obtain information, explain policies and procedures, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse audiences, including faculty, staff, and students.

  • Thorough knowledge of benefits and retirement programs, preferably in a university environment;

  • Ability to support VA Faculty/Staff by accessing documents on VAâ€s servers via additional appointment. - â€VA Without Compensation (WOC)".
