Job Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Student Services Program Coordinator I (Academic Counselor) processes student applications and provides student advisement counseling to new and continuing students throughout academic process to ensure rate of students as required to meet standards of the Student Affairs Division.
Duties Include:
Student Counseling and Enrollment Support: Provide admissions, academic, career, and personal counseling to prospective and currently enrolled students. Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries regarding admissions applications, enrollment procedures, academic programs, college services, and other student support resources.
Academic Advising and Planning: Provide academic advising and develop individualized academic plans for newly admitted and enrolled students based on placement scores, academic goals, and program requirements. Review and process incoming student documentation and coordinate with appropriate college departments to facilitate academic advising, planning, and enrollment.
Student Academic Progress and Retention: Monitor student academic progress and assist students in maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements through regular review of academic performance, including grade point averages. Collaborate with the Financial Aid Department and other relevant personnel to identify students who may need additional support, develop appropriate academic improvement plans, and promote student retention and success.
Student Orientation and Engagement: Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of orientation programs for incoming students. Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and informational sessions for prospective, newly admitted, and currently enrolled students on topics related to academic success, campus resources, and student life. Assist with the coordination and implementation of Student Affairs programs, activities, and special events.
Placement Testing and Student Services: Assist with the administration and coordination of student placement testing, including on-campus and off-campus testing activities, as needed. Provide general administrative and customer service support to the Student Affairs Division, including greeting visitors, responding to inquiries, and directing students and guests to appropriate resources and personnel.
Collaboration and Professional Development: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Student Affairs colleagues, faculty, staff, and other college stakeholders to support student success and institutional goals. Participate in college committees, meetings, training, and professional development activities as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission, operations, and objectives of the Student Affairs Division.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Bachelors Degree. Must be proficient in oral and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in a related field of study and one or more year of experience in an higher education setting. Knowledge of advising and transcript analysis.
