Position Summary

This Academic Advisor III position within UGA's College of Engineering supports incoming and current Engineering undergraduate students in their academic pursuits. The Academic Advisor III position:

• Effectively facilities advising sessions by engaging students holistically and inviting students into the advising process.
• Develops and evaluates strategies for enhancing rapport with students and campus partners.
• Deeply understands, communicates, and explains requirements, policies, procedures, and the use of student-facing technologies (Degree Works, SAGE, Athena, etc.)
• Responds to student needs and provides targeted support related to student decision-making, exploration, and development.
• Speaks knowledgeably about campus resources; makes proactive and direct referrals based on individual students' situations, needs, or interests, then follows up on the outcomes of the referrals.
• Collaborates with students to integrate degree progress, interests, and abilities into future planning.
• Demonstrates consistent, streamlined, and strategic communication while maintaining professionalism and clarity.
• Develops processes and methods for maintaining accurate records and utilizes existing records to inform advising practice.
• Demonstrates meaningful contributions to professional development events and activities or to professional organizations.
• Facilitates collaboration within home unit or department for improvement of programs.
• Demonstrates nuanced understanding of high-impact practices by tailoring recommendations to student goals, program of study, personality, etc.
• Assesses areas for improvement related to projects, initiatives, systems, and procedures; initiates action on areas for improvement.
• Will support Advisor I and Advisor II Staff in their learning
• May partner with Director of Advising on special projects such as data reports, process improvements, audits, etc. as needed.

The primary function of all Academic Advisor positions in the College of Engineering is to administer student support to enrolled and prospective students while working collaboratively with other Academic Advisors and staff throughout the College of Engineering and across campus.

Engineering advisors play a vital role in supporting various student populations, including but not limited to:

• Current and prospective students
• First-generation college students
• Transfer students
• Historically underrepresented in STEM students
• International students
• Students with disabilities
• Rural students
• Low-income students
• Veterans and military- students

The Advisor III role will involve understanding the unique challenges and needs of these groups, offering holistic, personalized guidance, and fostering an inclusive environment that enhances their academic and personal success. The Academic Advisor III will provide proactive, tailored resources and advocacy to help students navigate their educational journeys and reach their educational and future goals. Advisor IIIs will be expected to role model these holistic student intervention practices for Advisors I and II.

In addition, Academic Advisors must stay abreast of current degree program procedures, policies, and curriculum requirements and of UGA-wide policies and procedures for UGA employees and Academic Advisors specifically. College of Engineering Academic Advisors will follow all UGA Academic Advising Services requirements and are encouraged to continue their professional learning through their learning and development resources and best practices.

The College of Engineering offers BS, MS, and PhD degree programs through four schools - School of Chemical, Materials, and Biomedical Engineering, School of Computing, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and School of Environmental, Civil, Agricultural, and Mechanical Engineering. The College of Engineering is a rapidly growing Engineering college at a flagship public university. Since its founding in 2012, UGA's College of Engineering has added multiple new degree programs, increased its enrollment to over 2,700 undergraduate and 300 graduate students, employs over 200 Faculty, Staff and Post-Doctoral Associates, and has had a 300% increase in research funding in the last 5 years.

This position will report directly to the College of Engineering Director of Advising and is expected to manage a caseload of approximately 275-305 advisees. The Academic Advisor III position will work with other Academic Advisor I, II, and III Advisors, both independently and collaboratively as part of the college Advising team.

• Attends staff meetings, professional development seminars, yearly UGA advising workshops, and other student support related meetings; serve on various campus committees; complete the Academic Advising Certificate Program.
• Represents the College of Engineering at on-campus recruitment events and related meetings.
