Job Summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries is seeking a Supply Chain Specialist 2 to support procurement and supply chain operations at Newport News Shipbuilding. The selected candidate will manage a high volume and variety of materials, supplies, and services while working closely with suppliers, subject matter experts, and internal teams.

This position is particularly suited for a candidate with strong writing, editing, training-development, communication, and coordination skills, along with procurement or supply chain experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Purchase a high volume and variety of materials, supplies, and services.

• Evaluate supplier bids and recommend qualified suppliers.

• Negotiate price, delivery, quality, and service requirements.

• Follow up on supplier awards through completion of orders.

• Resolve supplier issues involving:

• Damaged materials

• Rejections

• Losses

• Returns

• Over-shipments

• Cancellations

• Engineering changes

• Conduct supplier site visits and evaluate supplier production capability, performance, and delivery.

• Meet with subject matter experts to develop specialized buyer training modules.

• Create and enhance training materials for the department.

• Develop and provide voice-over training modules.

• Assist with scheduling and coordinating in-person training sessions.

• Communicate effectively with procurement teams, suppliers, subject matter experts, and internal stakeholders.

• Support continuous improvement of procurement processes and departmental training.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience, or

• Master's Degree and 1 year of experience.

• Related exempt experience may be substituted for the education requirement as applicable.

• An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School may be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to organize and coordinate multiple activities and stakeholders.

• Ability to understand and communicate complex processes clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience.

• Experience developing training materials or standard operating procedures.

• Experience working with subject matter experts.

• Strong writing and editing skills.

• Ability to simplify complex processes into clear, understandable steps.

• Experience coordinating training programs or departmental initiatives.

• Strong organizational and follow-through skills.
