6th Grade ELA / Social Studies Teacher – ParkridgeJob OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and passionate 6th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) / Social Studies Teacher to join our team at Parkridge. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, supportive, and academically challenging classroom environment that helps students strengthen their reading, writing, communication, critical-thinking, and social studies skills.This position is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction in both English Language Arts and Social Studies, while supporting the academic and social-emotional development of middle school students. The teacher will use a variety of instructional strategies, assessments, and technology to meet diverse learning needs and prepare students for continued academic success.ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in 6th Grade English Language Arts and Social StudiesDevelop engaging lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, research, and communication skillsProvide Social Studies instruction that develops students' understanding of history, geography, culture, civics, and other applicable grade-level contentEncourage critical thinking, discussion, collaboration, and independent learningDifferentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying academic abilities and learning stylesAssess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction based on student performanceMaintain a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment through effective classroom managementIncorporate technology and digital resources into instruction to enhance student learning and engagementMaintain accurate records of student grades, performance, attendance, and academic progressCommunicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievementsCollaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomesParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other assigned activitiesPerform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of the schoolQualificationsBachelor's degree in Education, English, Social Studies, History, or a related fieldValid Louisiana teaching certification appropriate for the position or enrollment in an approved alternative certification programPrevious experience teaching ELA and/or Social Studies at the upper elementary or middle school level preferredStrong knowledge of reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literacy developmentKnowledge of grade-level Social Studies concepts and standardsStrong classroom management, organization, and communication skillsAbility to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needsAbility to effectively use student assessment data to guide instructionExperience with or willingness to integrate technology into daily instructionAbility to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leadershipCommitment to creating an inclusive and academically challenging learning environmentDesired SkillsExperience teaching middle school studentsFamiliarity with digital learning platforms such as Google Classroom and other educational technologyExperience using interactive whiteboards, tablets, and digital resources to enhance instructionStrong collaboration and problem-solving skillsWillingness to learn new instructional strategies and technologies to improve student outcomesPassion for helping students develop strong literacy, critical-thinking, and social studies skills
