Description

Job Title: Communications & Networks Systems Engineer
Pay: $93.77/hour
Duration: 12 months, possible extension

Boeing’s Defense, Space and Security organization is seeking a Senior or Lead DSP Algorithms Engineer to join the Space, Intelligence and Weapons Systems teams in El Segundo, CA. This role focuses on designing and developing next-generation RF and digital satellite communication systems for commercial, civil, and national security programs.

The position supports projects across the full product life cycle, including internal trade studies, concept development, system definition, satellite unit development, integration, testing, and in-orbit operations. The engineer will collaborate with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists.

Position responsibilities

  • Design and develop next-generation RF and digital satellite communication systems.
  • Develop and verify multi-rate fixed-point signal processing algorithms.
  • Conduct performance analysis of signal processing models.
  • Perform waveform development and characterization.
  • Conduct system and design trade studies.
  • Support integration and testing of payloads and spacecraft from unit level through in-orbit operations.
  • Support HDL-level design and verification.
  • Perform detailed system design and verification activities.
  • Lead teams and engineering activities.
  • Lead independent research and development (IR&D) activities.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

This is a non-managerial, non-leadership role.

Required skills

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • Experience with digital signal processing (DSP) and digital communications algorithms and techniques, including equalization, turbo/Viterbi coding and decoding, channel estimation, filter design, and resampling theory.
  • 3+ years of experience with MATLAB or Simulink.
  • 5+ years of experience in core digital communications and signal processing theory.
  • 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, including requirements definition, allocation, verification, architecture design, and trade studies.
  • 1+ years of experience working with FPGAs or ASICs.

Preferred skills

  • Experience with laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Experience leading teams of engineers.
  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
  • Master's degree with 7+ years of experience or PhD with 4+ years of experience.
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry.
