Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• 12-hour night shifts, 7P-7A, 36 hours/week
• Med/Surg Telemetry unit with 23 beds and census of 10-23 patients
• RN patient ratio of 1:4-6 with LPN and CNA support
• Post-op orthopedic, spinal, and bariatric surgery patients along with chronic disease and cardiac cases
• Non-titratable cardiac and insulin drips, chest tubes, wound vacs, trachs, and PCA pumps used
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to all adult med surg/telemetry units
• EPIC EMR used
• Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors utilized

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
• BLS required; BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) competency exam required as part of compliance
• ACLS preferred
• Medical-surgical or nephrology nursing certification preferred but not required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• Strong clinical assessment skills for Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
• Skills in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, insulin and heparin drip management, central line care, and wound care required
• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
• Last 4 of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Provide med-surg/telemetry nursing care including discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
• Unit has resource/discharge nurses and a PICC team for support
• CNAs assist with vitals, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, and ambulation
• Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment
• Orientation includes 1 day of educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
• Navy scrubs required for RNs
