    MA DESE Licensure: School Counselor, All Levels

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling or a related field
    • Valid Massachusetts DESE Licensure as School Counselor, 5-12
    • Familiarity with current federal, state, and district-required assessments and graduation requirements
    • Experience in college admissions or high school college counseling preferred
    • Teaching experience preferred, with experience leading student and family workshops, including college application support, financial aid, and postsecondary planning
    • Experience supporting first-generation college students with college planning, admissions, financial aid, and postsecondary transition preferred
    • Knowledge of college, career, workforce, military, and other postsecondary pathways
    • Demonstrated experience using college and postsecondary planning platforms and resources, including SchoolLinks, Common App, FAFSA, MAFSA, and QuestBridge, preferred
    • Experience coordinating college fairs, college representative visits, and other postsecondary programming, as well as building strong relationships with college admissions representatives
    • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and relationship-building skills

    • The Counselor will mentor first-generation college students and support all students in developing meaningful plans for their futures. The Counselor will assist students with postsecondary planning, including college, career, workforce, military, and other pathways after high school.

    • The Counselor will also assist student-athletes and families with the college athletic recruitment and admissions process, including NCAA eligibility, college research, communication with coaches, application requirements, and transition planning.

    • The Counselor will collaborate with the school community, families, colleges, employers, community organizations, and other partners to develop, coordinate, deliver, and assess multitiered levels of programming and support that expand access to postsecondary opportunities and help students achieve postsecondary success.
