VEX/Robotics Club Coach (2 positions available)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The Robotics Coach will: Recruit students and create teams. Supervise practices and travel to competitions. Facilitate the development and implementation of student learning. Collect necessary paperwork. Collaborate with the Program Coordinator about program plans and needs. Communicate with parents about schedules, travel logistics, etc. Proactively handle any disciplinary issues that may arise. Other duties as deemed necessary by the head coach, program coordinator, or building administration. Developing student leadership skills. Deepening student STEM knowledge and skills. Coordinating assistant and volunteer coaches. Timeline: The regular season will last from Mid Sept through Mid April (30 weeks). The regular season will include 2 hour practices (plus 30 minutes of prep and clean up time), twice a week. Additional or extended practices may be required, based on the coach's discretion. However, additional practice time does not change the coach's compensation for this season. The regular season will include travel (local and out of the area) to 8-10 all day events/competitions including the State Championship. These events are held on weekends. In the event that teams qualify for the National/ World Championship, an extended season will last through May (5 weeks). The extended season will include 2 hour practices (plus 30 minutes of prep and clean-up), three times a week for 5 weeks. Additional or extended practices may be required, based on the coach's discretion. However, additional practice time does not change the coach's compensation for this season. The extended season will include 4-5 days of out of state travel. Compensation: Regular Season; The coach will be paid a stipend for the regular season based on the co-curricular contract salary schedule. The coach will be responsible for providing his/her own meals during regular season weekend events. Extended Season (Nationals/Worlds): In the event that teams qualify for the National / World Championship, the coach will be paid an additional stipend for the extended season. The stipend will be calculated as 8% of the regular season stipend per additional week. Meals, travel, and lodging will all be provided for coaches while at Nationals/Worlds. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to work as a team player and understand the needs of middle school aged students. Middle school teaching experience preferred. Attendance and punctuality are important functions of this position. May require prolonged sitting or standing.
