Job Summary
The Food Service Assistant supports the daily operations of the school food service program by assisting with food preparation, serving meals, maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards, and ensuring a safe and efficient kitchen environment. This position works collaboratively with food service staff to provide high-quality meal service to students and staff.
Essential Functions
- Assist in the dish room and on serving lines as assigned.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving, storage, and dining areas.
- Sweep, mop, and clean floors and workspaces according to established procedures.
- Transfer and handle food using commercial food service equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times.
- Assist with meal preparation, service, and cleanup as needed.
- Work cooperatively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Previous food service experience preferred.
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, staff, and coworkers.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain flexible and learn all aspects of food production and service.
- Reliable transportation required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, lift, and carry materials.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment with varying temperatures.
