ROLE OVERVIEW
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe and accurate movement, inspection, and loading of materials across plant and warehouse operations. This role operates powered equipment, performs quality assurance checks, and supports inventory accuracy in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Load and unload trailers at both the Plant and Warehouse following written and oral load sheets.
  2. Operate towmotor (forklift) for loading and unloading railcars and trailers.
  3. Move foam to loading areas by hand or with powered equipment.
  4. Conduct final quality assurance inspections before loading; identify and respond to foam defects including holes, splits, poor structure, contamination, and dimension issues.
  5. Distinguish between different grades and pore sizes in scrap foam bales.
  6. Perform inventory cycle counts and retag material as needed.
  7. Inspect trailers for damage prior to loading or off-loading goods.
  8. Inspect and perform basic pre-use maintenance on towmotors.
  9. Search for and locate orders for shipment throughout plant production areas.
  10. Perform additional duties as directed by a supervisor when not acting in the primary Material Handler capacity.
 
REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
 
Safety Training
Equipment Used
 
Right-to-Know, Emergency Response, and Towmotor Safe Operation certifications required.
Towmotors, scales, drum carts, come-along, and battery charging units.
 
PPE Required
Physical Demands
 
Gloves and protective clothing must be worn at all times in production areas.
Lift up to 100 lbs; prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing on concrete; extended towmotor operation.
 
Work Environment
 
Non-air-conditioned facility. Frequent cold air exposure near loading doors during winter months.
