Summary
Performs, under direct supervision, the housekeeping and maintenance functions in an assigned facility, ensuring a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient environment for students and employees to learn and work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for assigned building area for custodial duties and for building emergencies that may arise during the custodial shift
Leads, coordinates, and assists the work of Class I custodians working the same shift
Serves as point of contact with building administration and custodial staff during the work shift, including managing radio communications with Class I custodians and building administration
Maintains and performs custodial duties to the District’s standards, including disinfecting, mopping, and scrubbing floors within the assigned cleaning area
Cleans and disinfects classrooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, stairways, locker rooms, and other areas within the assigned custodial cleaning area
Cleans and sweeps carpets where appropriate, dusts furniture, window sills and frames, high surfaces, ledges, and equipment within the assigned cleaning area
Washes windows (interior and exterior), door panels, mirrors, and sills within the assigned cleaning area
Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to the disposal area; replenishes restroom supplies within the assigned area
Identifies and reports issues within the assigned cleaning area that need repairs; properly stocks the custodial closet with supplies
Maintains and properly uses District cleaning equipment (walk-behind and riding floor scrubbers, I-mops, vacuums, carpet extractors, etc.) and understands proper mixing and use of cleaning chemicals
Assists with setting up and taking down tables, chairs, bleachers, etc. for school functions, and with moving furniture
Assists with shoveling snow and sanding sidewalks and steps as needed during the work shift, and with stripping and waxing floors
At the elementary school level, the 2nd shift Class II custodian covers for the building head custodian when the building head custodian is off
Manages multiple tasks at a given time and applies critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Other duties may be assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities
As the Lead Custodian, the incumbent leads and coordinates the work of other custodians on that shift.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma.
Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence, and to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to managers and other employees. Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers, and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s, using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance. Ability to work with necessary tools, ladders, chemicals, machines, and equipment as required, such as floor scrubbing machines and hand tools. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions, and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Observes standard safety precautions.
