As the LHS 2nd Assistant Boys Basketball Coach and C-Team Head Coach, you will help students develop the fundamentals, confidence, discipline, and sense of belonging they need to grow within the Lakeside basketball program.

The right coach will teach with patience, set meaningful expectations, recognize progress that may not appear on the scoreboard, and remain steady when students make mistakes. Salary: The salary range for the position is Min. $2,813 to Max. $3,750. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Nature and Scope of Position

The Lakeside High School 2nd Assistant Boys Basketball Coach assists the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach with the instruction, supervision, and development of student-athletes participating in the high school boys basketball program. The position serves as the C-Team Head Coach, if student participation numbers permit, and supports the overall program through practices, competitions, student safety, equipment management, eligibility requirements, and team operations.

Primary Job Functions

• Assist the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach with the Lakeside High School boys basketball program.
• Serve as the C-Team Head Coach if student participation numbers permit.
• Plan and conduct C-Team practices in coordination with the Head Varsity Coach and the overall goals of the boys basketball program.
• Provide instruction in basketball fundamentals, individual skills, team concepts, conditioning, game preparation, and sportsmanship.
• Prepare student-athletes for competition through organized, developmentally appropriate, and safe practices.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, travel, locker-room use, and other assigned team activities.
• Make appropriate coaching decisions during C-Team competitions while supporting the philosophy and expectations established by the Head Varsity Coach.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, leadership, respect, sportsmanship, and a positive team culture.
• Maintain appropriate team discipline and model professional and respectful conduct.
• Communicate participation expectations, team rules, schedules, and eligibility requirements to student-athletes and families.
• Monitor student eligibility and support student-athletes in meeting academic, attendance, conduct, and participation expectations.
• Prioritize student safety and follow district procedures concerning injuries, concussion management, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, emergency response, and the reporting of concerns.
• Communicate regularly with the Head Varsity Coach regarding practices, competitions, student-athlete development, concerns, and program needs.
• Follow applicable WIAA, league, district, school, and athletic-department rules, procedures, and expectations.
• Maintain required certifications and complete all required district and WIAA training.
• Assist with equipment, uniforms, inventory, facility use, transportation coordination, scheduling, and team records as assigned.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, coaching staff, officials, school personnel, and administration.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Head Varsity Coach or Athletic Director.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Current First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification before the start of the season.
• Ability to meet Washington State Patrol and FBI fingerprint-clearance requirements.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to complete required WIAA coaching education and district-directed training.
• Knowledge of safe and effective basketball fundamentals, techniques, training practices, and game strategies.
• Ability to plan and conduct organized practices and provide appropriate supervision of student-athletes.
• Ability to instruct, motivate, supervise, and communicate effectively with high school-aged students.
• Commitment to student safety, positive relationships, sportsmanship, and equitable treatment of students.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience participating in or coaching basketball at the high school, collegiate, club, or comparable level.
• Experience working with high school-aged students.
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and instruct developing student-athletes.
• Skill in teaching basketball fundamentals, individual development, and team concepts.
• A student-centered approach that promotes confidence, discipline, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.
• Ability to support the Head Varsity Coach in maintaining a positive, organized, competitive, and inclusive basketball program.
• Ability to develop character and promote positive lifelong habits through athletics.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with students, families, coaches, school staff, officials, and administration.
