The shift for this position is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

The College of the Sciences and Mathematics prepares the students of West Chester University to be informed citizens and successful professionals, through our academic programs and co-curricular experiences in the computational, mathematical, natural, and social sciences, as well as engineering.

In collaboration with the Laboratory Coordinator, the Laboratory Stock Clerk obtains quotes, orders and tracks materials for the Chemistry teaching and research labs; receives, records, monitors and delivers stockroom inventory for the departments of Chemistry, Biology, Earth & Space Science; maintains supplies; safely handles, stores, transports and disposes of compressed gas cylinders, chemicals, and living and preserved specimens; and provides excellent customer service and support for the Science Complex and Merion Science Centers.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience monitoring and maintaining inventory and reports; the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities; excellent organizational skills; attention to detail; and the ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse campus community including students, faculty and staff.

This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to lift and move heavy objects.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Receive and sort deliveries from UPS, FedEx, DHL, and others
  • Monitor the Science Complex and Merion Science Center for delivered packages
  • Track deliveries (SAP/Source Point)
  • Ensure the quality of deliveries and contact vendors to resolve issues
  • Unpack, distribute, and deliver orders on campus
  • Communicate with campus partners regarding the status of deliveries
  • Communicate with vendors regarding regular deliveries
  • Collaborate with vendors for the best pricing and availability for orders as needed
  • Monitor and update required Safety Data Sheets for all stock chemicals (SharePoint)
  • Enter purchase requisitions for goods and services (SAP / Source Point)
  • Estimate, order and maintain gas and liquid nitrogen supply per semester
  • Manage and reconcile WCU purchasing card
  • Assist with Purchasing Department inquiries
  • Maintain electronic records including purchase orders, credit card orders, and invoices (SharePoint)
  • Schedule requests for pickup or bring items to shipping centers as needed
  • Assist to organize and clean the stockroom
  • Remove and properly dispose of unnecessary or expired inventory
  • Perform regular tank checks and maintain full cylinders
  • Set up and remove glass waste boxes from the labs as needed
  • Check empty classrooms to make sure labs are locked and chemicals are secure
  • Monitor stock levels and order replacements when necessary
  • Respond to requests to pick up or process chemical waste
  • Document and transport waste chemicals for safe storage
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) for safe hazardous chemical storage and coordinate waste picked up
  • Assist to move equipment as needed
  • Participate in meetings with Purchasing and potential new vendors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in stores control work, including one year of experience with responsibility for the operation of a small storeroom; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a high school or vocational school;

OR

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of storeroom methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of purchase and requisition procedures
  • Knowledge of transportation agencies and shipment methods
  • Knowledge of inventory control systems and procedures
  • Ability to determine quality and quantity of goods in relation to prescribed specifications
  • Ability to install and maintain stock inventory records
  • Sufficient physical strength to permit the lifting and moving of heavy objects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word and Excel and SharePoint
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Customer service experience
  • Familiarity with scientific equipment and supplies

Special Instructions

Salary and benefits are dictated by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) collective bargaining agreement.
