    The Police Supervisor of Investigations is responsible for leading and supervising the Investigations Division, ensuring thorough, timely, and professional criminal investigations. This position provides leadership to detectives and investigative personnel, oversees case management, coordinates investigative resources, and ensures compliance with departmental policies, legal requirements, and best practices. The supervisor of investigations position is a supervisory position in which the employee provides basic police services in addition to supervising other officers in the provision of basic patrol activities. The position is also responsible for supervising and reviewing the conduct of criminal investigations within the department.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate detectives and investigative personnel
    • Assign and monitor criminal investigations, ensuring timely follow-up and case completion
    • Review investigative reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards
    • Coordinate investigations involving major crimes, complex cases, and multi-jurisdictional incidents
    • Serve as liaison with prosecutors, courts, allied law enforcement agencies, and community partners.
    • Assist with search warrants, arrest warrants, interviews, interrogations, and evidence collection
    • Ensure proper evidence handling, case documentation, and records management
    • Develop investigative strategies and provide guidance on complex cases
    • Prepare reports, statistical analyses, and presentations related to investigative operations
    • Assist in policy development, accreditation efforts, and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Respond to critical incidents and provide command-level support as needed
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and departmental policies
    • Formally communicate with subsequent shift supervisor daily regarding shift activities and issues
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Essential functions: This position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closings of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • One year as a Police Specialist or two years of police work including one year at a supervisory level or one year of advanced technical police work AND formal training in the provision of basic police services as certified through Act 120 Training, OR any equivalent experience or training.
    • Valid Drivers license

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of Commonwealth laws, rules, and regulations governing motor vehicle operation and personal conduct for employees or visitors at Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Universities; or of modern police practices and methods used in crime investigation and the identification and preservation of physical evidence
    • Knowledge of Commonwealth provisions for emergency situations
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of police supervision
    • Knowledge of group behavior and the principles and practices of group control
    • Skill in the use and care of offensive and defensive weapons
    • Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others
    • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Advanced investigative training
    • Experience supervising detectives or specialized investigative units
    • Experience with case management systems and crime analysis
    • Experience with threat assessment cases

    Special Instructions

    Salary and benefits are dictated by the PASSHE Officers Association (POA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.
