    Summary

    Farmington

    Public

    Schools

    is

    seeking

    a

    compassionate,

    dependable,

    and

    dedicated

    Paraprofessional

    to

    support

    students

    in

    our

    Severe

    Multiple

    Impairments

    (SXI)

    Program .

    This

    program

    serves

    students

    with

    significant

    cognitive

    and

    physical

    disabilities

    who

    require

    intensive

    support

    across

    all

    areas

    of

    functioning.

    The

    successful

    candidate

    will

    work

    under

    the

    supervision

    of

    a

    certified

    special

    education

    teacher

    to

    assist

    with

    academic,

    behavioral,

    and

    functional

    needs,

    including

    daily

    living

    activities

    such

    as

    toileting,

    diapering,

    feeding,

    positioning,

    and

    mobility

    assistance .

    This

    is

    a

    12-month

    position

    that

    plays

    a

    vital

    role

    in

    promoting

    students'

    independence,

    dignity,

    and

    quality

    of

    life

    in

    a

    safe

    and

    supportive

    educational

    environment.

    Essential

    Duties

    and

    Responsibilities

    Direct

    Student

    Support:

    Assist

    students

    with

    significant

    cognitive

    and

    physical

    disabilities

    in

    classroom,

    therapy,

    and

    community-based

    instruction

    settings.

    Provide

    one-on-one

    or

    small

    group

    academic

    and

    functional

    support

    under

    the

    direction

    of

    the

    teacher

    or

    related

    service

    providers.

    Support

    students

    in

    daily

    living

    activities

    including

    toileting,

    diapering,

    changing

    clothes,

    hand-over-hand

    feeding,

    and

    oral

    motor

    support.

    Support

    safe

    lifting,

    transferring,

    and

    positioning

    of

    students

    using

    appropriate

    techniques

    and

    equipment

    (e.g.,

    gait

    belts,

    wheelchairs,

    standers).

    Maintain

    a

    respectful,

    clean,

    and

    safe

    environment

    during

    all

    care

    routines.

    Behavioral

    and

    Safety

    Support:

    Implement

    behavior

    support

    plans

    with

    consistency

    and

    care.

    Use

    proactive

    strategies

    to

    prevent

    and

    de-escalate

    challenging

    behaviors.

    Participate

    in

    training

    and

    apply

    Nonviolent

    Crisis

    Intervention

    (CPI)

    techniques

    when

    necessary

    to

    ensure

    safety.

    Monitor

    and

    report

    student

    behavior

    accurately

    and

    professionally.

    Instructional

    and

    Program

    Support:

    Prepare

    and

    modify

    learning

    materials

    and

    supports

    as

    directed

    by

    the

    teacher

    or

    therapist

    (e.g.,

    switch-adapted

    devices,

    visual

    schedules,

    sensory

    tools).

    Assist

    in

    data

    collection

    related

    to

    IEP

    goals,

    daily

    activities,

    and

    student

    responses.

    Support

    classroom

    routines,

    therapies,

    and

    community

    outings.

    Team

    Collaboration:

    Work

    collaboratively

    with

    teachers,

    occupational/physical/speech

    therapists,

    school

    nurses,

    and

    other

    staff

    members

    to

    provide

    consistent

    support.

    Communicate

    student

    needs,

    concerns,

    and

    observations

    with

    clarity

    and

    professionalism.

    Maintain

    confidentiality

    regarding

    all

    student

    information.

    Supervise

    students

    during

    transitions,

    lunch,

    recess,

    and

    transportation

    as

    needed.

    Required

    Qualifications

    &

    Experience

    High

    school

    diploma

    or

    GED

    required.

    Willingness

    and

    ability

    to

    assist

    with

    all

    personal

    care

    needs,

    including

    toileting

    and

    diapering.

    Must

    be

    able

    to

    lift

    and

    transfer

    up

    to

    50

    pounds

    and

    assist

    with

    physical

    mobility

    tasks.

    Must

    pass

    a

    criminal

    background

    check

    and

    meet

    all

    district

    onboarding

    requirements.

    Current

    CPR/First

    Aid

    certification

    or

    willingness

    to

    obtain.

    Completion

    of

    CPI

    (Crisis

    Prevention

    Institute)

    training

    within

    30

    days

    of

    hire

    (provided

    by

    the

    district).
