Requirements Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or Certificate or GED (High School Equivalent)

Must be able to read and write English to analyze and interpret general business procedures/correspondence, USDA and Weslaco ISD recipes and regulation and food labels, etc.

Must be able to do simple arithmetic (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)

Must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English

Experience working with applicable computer program (Microsoft Office) and Point-Of-Sale system(s)

Food Handler Certification

Food Manager Certification

Ability to follow instructions and take initiative in performance of assigned tasks

Required to have a minimum of 6 hours of continuing professional education development annually

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation

Knowledge of food handler safety

Ability to interact with students and staff in a consistent pleasant manner.

Must have the capacity to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations

Personnel and management skills.

Recordkeeping and accounting skills.

Manual dexterity and ability to work under pressure and desirable.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.

Experience:

Employees may qualify if they have had other types of management experiences in previous jobs, preferably within a kitchen, restaurant, or food service setting.

References will be verified Description Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the Point of Sale (POS) system. Maintain accountability of the Food & Nutrition Service Program by complying with federal, state and local regulations. Works as a team member with cooks in the daily food production, cleaning etc. requirements as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager and/or Assistant Cafeteria Manager. Works in maintaining good standards of safety and sanitation. Takes charge in the absence of the Cafeteria Manager.

Also works internally with Director of Food & Nutrition Services, Assistant Director of Food & Nutrition Services, Food & Nutrition Services Dietitian, Accountant, Purchasing Supervisor Field Supervisor, Bookkeepers and Campus kitchen personnel. Also works externally with Food and Non-Food vendors and the public. Application Procedure Position: Kitchen Clerk (PG 301)
