ROLE AND PURPOSE:

  • Assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Master's degree, required
  • Texas Principal or Mid-Management certification
  • Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS)

Experience:

  • Three years' experience as a classroom teacher
  • Three years' experience as a campus administrator

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Participate in development and evaluation of educational programs.
  • Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate curriculum and instruction on a systematic basis.
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Promote the use of technology in teaching/learning process.
  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective action.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

  • Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
  • Communicate and promote high expectations for staff and student performance in a supportive way; provide proper recognition of excellence and achievement.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

  • Participate in the development of campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members
  • Develop, maintain and use information systems and records necessary to track progress on campus performance objectives.
  • Identify, analyze and apply research findings to promote school improvement.
  • Facilitate collaborative improvement efforts with staff.

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

  • Supervise operations in principal's absence
  • Help plan daily school activities by participating in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules
  • Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy.

STUDENT MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure that students are adequately supervised during non-instructional periods, including after-school activities.
  • Ensure implementation of a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
  • Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Encourage plans for improved student behavior that reflect additional opportunities for learning.

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  • Articulate the school's goals to the community and solicit their support in achieving the goals of the campus.
  • Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  • Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and part involvement

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in professional learning to improve skills related to job assignment
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff
  • Disseminate professional learning to other professionals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
  • Apply state/district appraisal systems appropriately and ensure that evaluations clearly and accurately represent staff performance.
  • Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth; collaborate with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
  • Clearly define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public.
  • Assist principal in interviewing, selecting and orienting new staff
  • Share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with the school Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned
