Position Overview

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Division of Nursing is seeking Adjunct Faculty to teach a variety of courses in the RN-BSN Distance Learning Option for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 academic years. Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and providing theoretical and/or clinical instruction and experiences that reflect an understanding of the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the nursing program and profession.
  • Facilitating student achievement of course objectives/outcomes through varied teaching methods.
  • Evaluating student achievement of course objectives/outcomes.
  • Serving as a nursing resource person for healthcare and local agencies.
  • Utilizing feedback from student/faculty evaluations for instructional improvement • Serving as a role model for students in the professional, social, and civic areas.
  • Utilization of evidence-based research in teaching and the practice of nursing.

Requirements and Preferences

  • Master of Science in Nursing Education.
  • Minimum of five years full-time employment or equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse verified with the Board of Nursing
  • Current unrestricted RN license to practice in the state of North Carolina

Varies depending on program, student, and teaching needs.

Department Required Skills

  • Experience with the use of learning management systems within educational platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and members of the program-related affiliates.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • 3-years of preferred teaching experience in a nursing program
  • Preparation in teaching and learning principles in adult education, as defined by the Board of Nursing, is preferred
  • Experience with course design in learning management systems

Required License or Certification

Current unrestricted Registered Nurse License to practice in the state of North Carolina

  • Performing other duties that support the mission and initiatives of WWSU and the DON

Additional Duties:

  • Delivering didactic, online, or hybrid instruction using evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Developing and delivering lesson plans
  • Conducting online discussions and interactive learning
  • Providing orientation to course expectations
  • Evaluating and grading assignments, papers, and projects within required timelines, offering constructive feedback to support student learning and success
  • Staying current with nursing trends, teaching innovations, and educational technologies
