    Job Description

    Job Title - Career and Technical Education Counselor Supervised by/Reports to: Career and Technical Education Center Principal Supervises: NA FLSA Status: Exempt Job Goals:

    • To provide high quality comprehensive counseling and guidance programs for career and

    technical education students.

    • To provide consultative and collaborative services to teachers, parents, administrators and

    staff to support academic achievement and school/career success for all students.

    • To help students make career choices, post-secondary educational choices, and positive

    life choices that will lead to meaningful, successful, and rewarding work. Qualifications:

    1. Master's degree or higher from an accredited university.

    2. Valid Alabama certificate in counseling.

    3. Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.

    4. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under

    the Alabama child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 202-457.

    1. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

    2. Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.

    3. Ability to develop and evaluate curriculum and programming specific to the needs of

    students.

    1. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with

    a wide variety of people and groups, including, but not limited to students, faculty, staff,

    parents, and community members.

    1. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.

    2. Ability to use technology to communicate, to manage data, and to produce/submit

    required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.

    1. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.

    2. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.

    3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may require.

    Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

    1. Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.

    2. Disseminate information regarding career and technical education and career

    opportunities.

    1. Provides career and technical education and information to students seeking a career

    objective that may or may not include plans to pursue postsecondary education.

    1. Provides orientation to incoming high school students concerning career and technical

    education course offerings/career and technical education pathways/career academies.

    1. Utilize technology to plan and provide instruction and facilitate student learning.

    2. Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff.

    3. Keeps abreast to current changing job-entry skill requirements and changing technologies

    in business and industry.

    1. Informs local business and industry of career and technical education programs in the

    schools, and seeks information regarding their job requirements.

    1. Meets with representatives of career and technical education programs in the schools and

    seeks information regarding their job requirements.

    1. Cooperates with business and industry on job references of former students.

    2. Arranges for business and industry representatives to interview graduates as prospective

    employees.

    1. Maintains a file of catalogs, school profiles, and scholarship aid information related to

    schools, colleges, and institutions.

    1. Selects, administers, and interprets standardized tests to assist students in making

    appropriate career choices.

    1. Seeks internships, apprenticeships, and placement opportunities for CTE students.

    2. Assist students with post-secondary applications and scholarships.

    3. Maintains adequate cumulative records on students in career and technical classes.

    4. Assists in the individual career and technical education counseling of students.

    5. Assists other counselors and workforce coaches in matters pertaining to job requirements,

    technical schools, and technical opportunities.

    1. Gathers and publicizes information from the community regarding jobs available to all

    students.

    1. Interprets and communicates career and technical education data to the community.

    2. Prepares follow-up studies of former students in career and technical education for the

    purpose of improving services and evaluating the effectiveness of career and technical

    education and as required by the State Department of Education.

    1. Assists career and technical education students and teachers with Dual Enrollment

    applications and procedures; maintains enrollment and completion records; and promotes

    success of students participating in Dual Enrollment.

    1. Assists students and teachers with WorkKeys assessment and other credentialing

    assessments as the principal may assign.

    1. Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve

    professional performance and knowledge.

    1. Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required.

    2. Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school as

    directed.

    1. Supervises and/or assists with extracurricular and co-curricular activities as assigned.

    2. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.

    3. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for

    improvement in areas of responsibility.

    1. Engages in professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and effective

    leadership.

    1. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate

    administrative or supervisory personnel.

    1. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a

    timely and positive manner.

    1. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and

    effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of equipment

    and materials.

    1. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate

    manner.

    1. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team member.

    2. Serves on committees, representative bodies, task forces, or as a system delegate as

    needed.

    1. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and

    state, federal, and local regulations.

    1. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.

    2. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor(s). Terms of Employment:

    Ten month position in accordance with Board's salary schedule. Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the

    State Department of Education and/or Enterprise City Board of Education policy on evaluation
