    PRIMARY PURPOSE: To work closely with assigned Trainer and other members of the Transportation Department to successfully meet all regulatory requirements to obtain a Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with Passenger & School Bus endorsements as defined by the Texas Department of Transportation. The Trainee will meet all LISD training guidelines and training schedules accordingly.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Follow assigned training schedule. Follow and successfully execute all responsibilities associated with training tasks and assignments. Meet or exceed established timeframe for training completion. Obtain written and behind-the-wheel certification in accordance with established guidelines and criteria. Comply with discipline policies set forth by District. Participate in on-site training. Show proficiency in handling and maneuvering school bus. Supervise students while transporting them. Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None.

    GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Education/Certification/Experience: High school diploma or GED. Driving record must meet State point requirements and district standard for driving district vehicles. Must pass physical, including drug test. Must be 21 years of age.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of student discipline procedure. Ability to pass alcohol and drug test; complete required bus driver safety training; follow written and verbal instructions; communicate effectively; manage student behavior; and operate bus.

Ability to understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions of other information. May be required to physically assist students into bus. Ability to regularly pick up 40 pounds. Exposed to high or low outside temperatures.

Operation of a class B motor vehicle. Able to clean windshields, adjust mirrors, and open/close windows. Able to move or lift injured students (up to 180 pounds) to evacuate bus. Maintain composure and professionalism at all times.
