    Are you dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of students? We are seeking a compassionate, versatile, and collaborative Educational Assistant (EA) to join our multidisciplinary team.

    In this role, you will work under the supervision of teachers and other designated professionals to support students in areas of personal care, academic learning, and behavior management.     Duties will include but are not limited to:

    As an Educational Assistant, your duties will include, but are not limited to:

    • Follow teachers' verbal and written plans to implement IEP/TAP strategies and objectives. Carry out specialized programming as directed by professional staff, including Occupational Therapists (OT), Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and Physical Therapists (PT). Assist teachers in preparing classroom materials.
    • Assist teachers in implementing behavior support and de-escalation plans. Perform and implement Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) strategies as needed.
    • Support individual student well-being across cognitive, emotional, physical, and social domains. Identify and facilitate opportunities for students to increase their independence and build positive interactions with their peers.
    • Provide crucial personal care support, which may include feeding, dressing, toileting, and daily hygiene. Safely perform lifts and transfers and administer medication as authorized.
    • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary educational team (including staff, specialists, and parents) and communicate effectively to promote student success. Collect and record student data accurately.
    • Foster an appreciation of diversity and contribute to a school-wide culture of respect and belonging.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

    • Successful completion of an accredited and recognized post-secondary program in education of people with special education needs (or demonstrated equivalency recognized by the Employer).
    • Current Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
    • Current NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) training is preferred.
    • Verification of Qualification as a Regular Authorized Educational Assistant (www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/service/apply-regular-educational-assistant-authorization).
    • Demonstrated physical abilities consistent with the requirements of the job, including the ability to provide personal and physical care (such as lifting and transferring).
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Strong understanding of how to foster independence in students with special needs.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain and promote strict confidentiality.
    • A proven track record of good previous work performance and excellent attendance.
    • A current Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check must be submitted and kept on file (with no past or present record detrimental to working with children, youth, and other adults).
    • Applicants who do not meet the Educational Requirements for the role may be considered on a contract basis and would receive 90% of wage rate stated as per CUPE 3260 Agreement.
