Job Title: Civil Engineer 1 - Structural

Job Description

This Civil Engineer 1 - Structural position will support the Structural and Civil Engineering organization within Transmission Engineering and Technical Services at a major power administration. The role involves providing analysis and design services to support capital improvements and the maintenance of all structural aspects of the transmission system, including towers, substation structures, telecommunication towers, and buildings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for substation structures, including analysis for structural adequacy and producing designs for new structures.
  • Support transmission structural design for various structure types, ensuring the structural adequacy of existing structures.
  • Assist in telecommunication structural design, analyze existing structures, and conduct retrofit and modification designs.
  • Provide engineering support for building analysis and design, including seismic evaluations and structural strengthening.
  • Assist with structural maintenance and program sustainment, including structural adequacy assessments and design of replacements.
  • Support Technology Innovation and Research & Development activities, including research support and report writing.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, or a closely related field from an ABET-accredited college/university.
  • 6 months of practical structural engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of civil and structural engineering concepts and principles.
  • Experience with designs using the current International Building Code (IBC) and ASCE 7 and 10.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, RISA, tnxTower, and PLS-POLE.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific design codes such as AISC and ACI.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation or similar CAD programs.
  • Knowledge of ASCE 41: Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings.
  • Understanding of engineering concepts applicable to regional transmission systems.

This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
