Laurel Ridge is seeking an engaged, creative instructor of nursing. This is a full-time 12-month faculty position that requires primarily teaching in any of the nursing classes at Laurel Ridge Community College. The faculty member would also assist with curriculum and program development. Typical loads for full time faculty are normally 15 credit hours per semester with 10 student engagement hours required each week. Faculty members are also required to collaborate with others (full and part-time instructors) to ensure teaching uniformity and continuity of material and expectations. Collateral duties include advising, recruiting, and service on college committees.

Teaching schedules may include day and evening, weekend, on and off campus, in person, hybrid and web delivery. Faculty members will use state-of-the-art classroom teaching technologies. While this position is primarily assigned to the Middletown Campus, faculty may be required to teach at any campus, as needed by the college. Faculty members are required to work to help further the goals of the college and programs and support policies and procedures dictated by the Virginia Community College System.

The successful candidate may also be required to develop or update curriculum for new and existing programs. Candidates must have the required academic and professional background in Nursing. Teaching experience is desired, preferably at the community college level.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for the position is $70,541.00 to $136,789.00, per year, however, actual starting salary will commensurate with education and/or experience. The position is a 12 month faculty role and as such is eligible for the benefits package offered by the Commonwealth of Virginia for state agencies and the Virginia Community College System. Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a graduate degree, preferably with a major in nursing or a baccalaureate degree and be actively enrolled in a graduate program
  • Current, unrestricted RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum two years of clinical experience in nursing
  • Demonstrated teaching or related experience
  • Use of effective instructional techniques
  • Use of effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to meet the mandatory requirements of clinical facilities (i.e., appropriate training, background checks, drug testing, vaccinations, and other onboarding requirements). Note: All faculty and staff who are functioning within a clinical setting are required to meet mandatory requirements of the clinical facilities in which they function. If faculty is not functioning within a clinical facility, they will fall under requirements of the college and department, as it relates vaccinations etc.

Additional Considerations

  • Master of Science in Nursing or Related Field
  • Preference given to candidates with prior college teaching experience, significant job-related experience, and/or previous teaching experience at the community college level.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • Experience recruiting, retaining, advising, and counseling students or demonstrated transferable skills
  • Experience with Canvas or other online delivery technologies
  • Experience with simulation models and scenarios in a nursing program
  • Demonstrated ability to teach using technology in the classroom and/or online course delivery.

Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel

Travel as per any required duties of the position, such as to sites/campuses and any training. Ability to cover assignments throughout the college service region as necessary for the job is required.
