1:1 Care Provider

The School District of Somerset is seeking a compassionate and qualified Care Provider to provide individualized health support to one or more students during the school day. This position works under the supervision of the District Nurse to help ensure students with specialized health needs can safely access their educational program. This role may require riding the special ed bus to assist with student transport.

Qualifications

  • Medical training, certification, or relevant healthcare experience required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in pediatrics and/or supporting individuals with special healthcare needs preferred.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized (1:1) health care and support for elementary students with specialized medical needs.
  • Follow student-specific health care plans under the direction of the District Nurse.
  • Monitor students'' health status and respond appropriately to medical needs and emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with the District Nurse and school staff.
  • Support students in accessing their educational program while promoting their health, safety, and well-being.

Required Skills

  • Suctioning.
  • Seizure recognition and administration of emergency seizure medication.
  • Feeding tube (G-tube) care and feeding.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and organizational skills.
