1:1 Assistant - Full Time

The 1:1 provides individual support for a student and assists in the delivery of plans and programs to address their needs as directed by the special education teacher. This position consists of direct services to a student and is a supplement to teaching. The tutor provides instructional support or support navigating classroom interactions and task completion with the student. The successful candidate will have an understanding of current instructional practices and assessments. The successful candidate will be expected to communicate effectively with the student and collaborate effectively with staff. The 1:1 assistant may assist in collecting data, facilitating communication, making accommodations or modifications to the curriculum, and/or performing other tasks related to improving student performance, as assigned by the special education teacher. This position consists of direct services to a student in high school.

Responsibilities:

1. Guide, supervise, and coordinate the daily classroom activities as directed by the special education teacher and prepare lesson materials.

2. Present subject matter to the student under the direction and guidance of a special education teacher. Develop and implement strategies to meet the needs of the student with a variety of learning styles and emotional challenges under the direction and guidance of the special education teacher and/or administrator.

3. Assist the special education teacher/case manager with implementation of IEP accommodations and modifications and performs other classroom-related tasks.

4. Listen and communicate effectively and professionally with all students, staff, and, when necessary, parents.
