Wayne-Westland Community Schools is located in the metropolitan Detroit area, between Ann Arbor and Detroit. Our staff provides the very best educational opportunities for approx. 10,000 students from Westland, Wayne, Canton, Livonia, Garden City, Dearbor n Heights, Inkster, and Romulus. The Wayne -Westland Community School district is comprised of ten elementary schools (K-5), three middle schools (6-8), and two high schools (9-12). We also have an early childhood center , an ultra -modern facilit y for care er/technical training, an alternative high school, and a thriving online program.

GENERAL SUMMARY Wayne-Westland Community Schools is seeking a highly qualified and passionate Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to serve in a dual role supporting both Early Childhood Program (ECP) and Resource Room/Consultative services. This position provides direct instruction, coaching, consultation, and case management for preschool students with disabilities across a variety of settings. The teacher will support inclusive practices, embed IEP goals into daily routines, and collaborate with staff and families to promote student independence and successful transitions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned

• Plan and implement developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to curriculum goals
• Deliver individual and small group instruction based on IEP goals
• Create inclusive, supportive classroom environments for preschool learners
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse developmental and behavioral needs
• Use formative assessment to guide instruction and monitor progress
• Provide coaching and consultation to classroom staff using a transdisciplinary model
• Model effective instructional and behavioral strategies within classrooms
• Support co-teaching and inclusive practices across preschool settings
• Assist staff in implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and intervention strategies
• Serve as case manager for assigned students
• Conduct observations and assessments in natural learning environments
• Develop and facilitate IEPs, METs and REEDs, Initial and reevaluation processes
• Monitor student progress through data collection and reporting
• Maintain accurate and compliant documentation aligned with MARSE
• Complete Medicaid billing as required
• Establish strong partnerships with families and caregivers
• Conduct parent communication, conferences, and home visits as required
• Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and administrators
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams and problem-solving processes
• Support development and implementation of school-wide intervention systems
• Provide professional development and training to staff
• Assist in building inclusive programming across early childhood settings
• Participate in school improvement initiatives and staff meetings
• Flexibility to provide services in classrooms, small group settings, and consultation models
• Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and district policies
• Regular and predictable attendance

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Possess valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement
• Early Childhood Endorsement (ZS) required
• Experience in preschool special education and/or inclusive classrooms preferred
• Must meet the definition of Highly Qualified

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be eligible to work in the United States
• Strong knowledge of early childhood development and inclusive practices
• Knowledge of Michigan Early Learning Standards
• Knowledge of MARSE regulations and IDEA compliance
• Knowledge of Part C to B Transitions
• Knowledge of GSRP
• Knowledge of HighScope Curriculum and COR (preferred)
• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
• Ability to work with diverse student populations and families

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position. The employee frequently needs to move about inside the classroom and occasionally throughout the building to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. The employee will communicate with others and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The employee may need to travel to different work locations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud consistent with an early childhood setting. The employee is frequently required to interact with students, staff, families and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well -being of students.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Compensation, length of the work day and number of work days is based on the W -WEA collective bargaining agreement.
